Psalms‬ ‭40‬:‭1‬-‭17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit. Out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth— Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear and will trust in the Lord. Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. Many O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works Which You have done; And Your thoughts toward us Cannot be recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them. They are more than can be numbered. Sacrifice and offering You did not desire. My ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require. Then I said “Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me. I delight to do Your will O my God, And Your law is within my heart.” I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness In the great assembly; Indeed, I do not restrain my lips O Lord You Yourself know. I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation I have not concealed Your loving kindness and Your truth From the great assembly. Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me O Lord Let Your loving kindness and Your truth continually preserve me. For innumerable evils have surrounded me. My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to look up. They are more than the hairs of my head. Therefore my heart fails me. Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me; O Lord, make haste to help me! Let them be ashamed and brought to mutual confusion Who seek to destroy my life. Let them be driven backward and brought to dishonor Who wish me evil. Let them be confounded because of their shame, Who say to me “Aha aha!” Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; Let such as love Your salvation say continually. “The Lord be magnified!” But I am poor and needy; Yet the Lord thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, O my God.”

Psalms 40:1-17 NKJV

Psalm 40 is a powerful and encouraging passage that reminds us to hold on to our faith in God even when life is difficult. The psalmist writes, “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit out of the mud and mire he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” (verses 1-2)

In these verses we see that the psalmist was going through a difficult time, but he chose to trust in God and wait patiently for him to act. This is a powerful reminder that we too should trust in God and hold on to our faith even when things seem impossible.

As we continue to read through the psalm we see that the psalmist is praising God for his faithfulness and for the way he has delivered him from his troubles. He writes “Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done the things you planned for us. None can compare with your were I to speak and tell of your deeds they would be too many to declare.” (verses 5-6)

This passage reminds us that God is always faithful and that he has a plan for us. We may not always understand what that plan is but we can trust that it is good. We should hold on to our faith and worship God, even when things are difficult knowing that he is always working for our good.

As we continue to read we come to verse 9 where the psalmist says “I proclaim your saving acts in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips Lord as you know.” This verse speaks of the importance of sharing our faith with others. When we hold on to our faith and worship God we should also be sharing that faith with others. We should be telling others about the wonderful things that God has done in our lives and how he has delivered us from our troubles.

In verse 10, the psalmist says “I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help. I do not conceal your love and your truth from the great assembly.” This is a reminder that holding on to our faith and worshiping God is not just about us, it is also about sharing that faith with others.

What a powerful reminder psalm 40 is that we should hold on to our faith and worship God, even when things are difficult. We should trust in God’s faithfulness and his plan for our lives, and we should share our faith with others. Let us hold on to our faith and worship God, knowing that he is always working for our good.
