Introduction - The Journey Ahead
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought
it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the
form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man,
he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every
name.”
Philippians 2:5-9 KJV
I remember exactly where I was when the song was born.
I mean, truthfully for songwriters, songs are born and not necessarily “created”.
I was driving in to work, and since my commute to work was long, I just filled the drive time with
free worship and singing worship songs that I thought would bless God’s heart…just him and I
every morning in the truck.
Then suddenly, the presence of the Lord filled the truck and poured over me and I began to
spontaneously sing these words to Jesus:
Within hours afterward, I had written the song from top to bottom. That fast I had became
addicted to singing the whole thing! The song reveals God’s love for humanity through Jesus
Christ, and how he would become adorned in humanity’s pain and sin. He would take upon
himself every conceivable form of pain including the greatest pain of all – separation from God
the Father and sentenced to Hell as redemption’s price for humanity’s freedom.
I would go on to write three different versions of this one song (which i currently refer to as
Chapter 2 on the project), because I so wanted to accurately capture God’s heart in revealing
the story. What was meant to be one song on my first full album, God had inspired me to take
and make its own stand alone project.
Walk with me thru the dusty streets of Jerusalem, and peruse the scriptures that would follow to
see our King. Allow God to touch your heart as he did mine as we dive into the truths
concerning Jesus’ passion. Together let’s learn why Jesus Christ alone is King of Pain, and bore
in his body what you nor I could do for ourselves.
